Why Don't You Love Us, TV?

This article explains to gamers instances of TV shows insulting or getting a concept completely wrong about said gamers. It shows clips from television shows and news broadcasts, but those shows have it all wrong. If you can't tell, here's some ideas.

The first clip is from an episode of Law and Order: SVU. The daughter of the parents that played the video games was abused (locked in a cupboard with little to eat) and raped (not by the parents). It shows the stereotypical video gamer, which is nothing like a real gamer. A real gamer eats regular meals, sleeps, and goes to work. They also aren't obese from playing the games.

The second clip is from CBS money watch, where they showed the guy talking about money things. The wrong thing? When he got to lulzec hacking Sony, they showed the wrong logo.

This is Sony's logo:

The thing shown was something weird probably pulled off the Internet.

The last clip is from the show Dexter, where he is playing Halo. The site that the article is on tells what the problems are, but I will list them for you anyway.

the following is qouted from the article:

  1. Halo 3 is not available on the PC

  2. Halo 3 animates at more that 17 frames per second

  3. Halo 3 does not make the same sounds as Space Invaders

  4. Nobody will be doing any "winning" with both hands on the keyboard

  5. There's a conspicuos lack of teabagging

the before is quoted from the article.

As you can see from these videos, the gaming demographic portrayal on tv is greatly skewed from real life. The only place where it isn't skewed is G4, but many of you probably don't have that channel. Maybe one day I will make a discovery show that shows the truth behind stereotypes.
